The Arts in Education Council is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization.

bullet

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIPS: Fine arts education advocacy is supported through membership in the Council. Members receive the AEC Newsletter whose pages include arts education news on the district, local, state and nation-wide level. Besides members, the Newsletter is also distributed to all district fine arts faculty, principals and district administration, parent group presidents, AEC volunteers and various community members. The Council’s advocacy includes participation in various conferences and arts education organizations. Membership dues for individuals/families are $10 (Regular), $25 (Benefactor) and $50 (Sustaining) for the school year.

bullet

OPERATING EXPENSES: Each district school pays $50 per year in dues to the Arts in Education council for general operating expenses.

bullet

GRADE-LEVEL FINE ARTS FIELD TRIPS: Each district Elementary and Middle School contributes $2.75 per student, teacher, and chaperone for each grade level performance that their students attend, plus the cost of busing the students in district buses. Additional money to cover the cost of these events is raised from grants, primarily from the Scottsdale League for the Arts, a community group, whose chief fund raising effort is the “Culinary Festival” for which the Council provides volunteers.

bullet

HIGH SCHOOL MASTER CLASSES/CLINICS: The Council has developed  program of high school master classes/clinics funded though grant funds.

bullet

SCHOLARSHIPS: The Council's PATRICIA KREWSON McCLELLAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND is supported by community organizations and individual donations that are tax-deductible because of the AEC's non-profit corporation status. The McClellan Fund awards full scholarships to district students to attend summer band and strings camps and fine arts or visual arts programs. Scholarship criteria are citizenship, participation, financial need and a desire to bring new skills back to the school programs. Participating schools have 20% or more of their students enrolled in the free or reduced lunch program.

bullet

MASTERPIECES OF ART: Schools that participate in the MAP program pay $30 per year to the Arts Council to maintain the collection.

bullet

ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE: The Council helps write grants for Residencies and to coordinate Residencies. The district contributes $1800 to each school whose grant application for a Residency is accepted by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, a state agency. If more money is needed for the Residency, the school parent group will provide it.

bullet

OTHER EXPENSES: The School District provides the Council with many courtesies that result in savings to the organization, including use of meeting and storage space, the inter-school mail system and technical support.
