The Arts in Education Council (AEC) is a forum of parents, teachers and community members, organized in 1973, to advocate for quality fine arts education for all Scottsdale Unified School District students, K-12. “Without the Arts, education is not education, but vocational training.” Norman Cousins, Christian Science Monitor, January, 1987 Did you know…. The Arts in Education Council was the lobbying force behind the development of the district’s strings program in the late 1970’s? The Arts in Education Council introduced the first Masterpieces of Art program in the State of Arizona in 1974? The Arts in Education Council provided the impetus for the district’s support of the Artists-in-Residence in the district’s schools? The Arts in Education Council has supported a form of music appreciation for district elementary classrooms since 1980? The Arts in Education Council has funded and coordinated grade-level field trips involving professional performances in theatre venues for district students 1st through 8th graders for twenty years?
